Decolonisation
Resistance

Bless the heads of a thousand colonial soldiers

by Ava Riby-Williams, she/they

Instagram: @avazarah

This piece centres Tantric Goddess Kali wearing a garland of severed heads. A fierce and loving figure of Ego death, the surrounding people, movements and messages are her missives through time. They demand reparations and a return to Love; for the good of all- including the coloniser, who gives up his humanity by oppressing. These messages celebrate indigeneity, cultural and sexual celebration as decolonisation, and trans identities as an expression of the divine in Ardhanareeshwara.

This piece is intended as a learning tool for revolution; a slow and visceral way of absorbing the news, ancient and current.

Ava is a community worker, interdisciplinary artist and founder of Collective Futurism; a collective of Black women and non-binary people committed to creative community gathering as decolonisation in practise.

A collage of photos, article clippings, text, and illustrations. An image of the goddess Kali is at the centre surrounded by images exploring the artists lived experience.
