What me?

by Gloria Birdsall, she/her

I was raised in the 60’s. As a child, I then realised I had a tag placed on me, which denoted the fact I was of a different colour than the so called norm. This was pointed in a negative way through words or lashing out. In time through the suffering, trying to come to terms, and doing ones best to keep your head down, you find a way. My way, is and was by getting to know ME, and getting to know my reason to be here on earth by incorporating JOY through God into my life. I am who I am, and proud of who I became!

What me!?

As I walk now, I walk with style

As I walk now, I walk with intent

As I walk now, I walk with freedom through each step

Before 1973 my walk told another story of hurt

Before my walk called out for help inside

Before my walk lacked purpose to hold out

Before my walk had no flair
